This chicken and dumpling casserole is the perfect one-dish comfort meal! Made with shredded chicken, a creamy sauce, and fluffy dumplings, it’s an easy, hearty dinner that brings homemade goodness to your table.

  • 3 cups cooked, shredded chicken
  • 2 cups chicken broth
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 ¼ teaspoons baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1 (10.5 oz) can cream of chicken soup

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • Prepare the dish by pouring melted butter into a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • Layer the shredded chicken evenly over the butter.
  • Mix the dumpling batter: In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, and milk. Slowly pour over the chicken. Do not stir.
  • Prepare the sauce: In another bowl, whisk chicken broth with cream of chicken soup. Gently pour over the flour mixture. Again, do not stir.
  • Bake uncovered for 35-45 minutes until the top is golden brown and the dumplings are set.
  • Let it rest for 5-10 minutes before serving to allow the sauce to thicken.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, add chopped fresh parsley or a pinch of garlic powder to the dumpling batter.
  • Want a crispier top? Brush the dumpling layer with melted butter before baking.
