- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 ¾ cups granulated sugar
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk

- ½ tsp salt
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch cake pans.
- In a large bowl, cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Alternate adding the dry ingredients and buttermilk into the butter mixture, beginning and ending with the dry ingredients. Stir in vanilla extract.
- Divide the batter evenly between the prepared cake pans.
- Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
- Let cakes cool in the pans for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely before frosting.
Notes
- For extra moisture, brush the cake layers with a simple syrup soak after baking.
- Substitute sour cream for buttermilk for a richer texture.
